I have been interested in movement as well as the relationship between mind and body for many years. I have studied modern dance, Afro dance, ballet and Balkan folkdancing, as well as Iyengar yoga, Kentro Body Balance, massage and Shiatsu.
Voice touches a deep place within me. I have been involved with singing in one form or another for a long time, including Balkan singing (with Kitka and then directing my own group, Born to Drone) and classical voice (with the Peninsula Women's Chorus as well as operatic recitals with Carl Franzen). Currently I sing with the 'fabulous' JewelTones, a women's ensemble whose repertoire includes popular music from the first half of the 20th century. My activities were restricted for over 20 years because I developed hip pain from congenital dysplasia and had to give up all impact activity, which included dancing. In addition I had chronic neck and shoulder tension exacerbated by working as a Law Librarian and then as a Programmer/Analyst. |
How the Alexander Technique Has Helped Me:
For more information on how the Technique has helped me, please see my blog.
In addition to teaching Alexander Technique I enjoy being with family and friends, swimming using Alexander Technique, hiking, gardening, Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), cooking, traveling to exotic, natural places with my husband for bird-watching and photography. What Jeanne's students' say: |
"I found Jeanne online about 6 months ago. I needed help with my head and shoulder pain. Upon meeting her, she instantly put me at ease with her kind, thoughtful, and funny manner. Over the course of our lessons she has taught me the best way to stand, sit, and move. The pain in my head and shoulders is greatly diminished. This work is life changing. Thank You Jeanne." -E.C., Redwood City. CA |
"When Jeanne is working on me, my body feels the way I wish it did all the time. With the Alexander Technique I have hope that someday it will!" - D.F., Redwood City. CA
"Jeanne has an exceptionally gentle approach to her work." - R.D., Palo Alto. CA "I have been a student of Jeanne’s for more than 4 years. Her instruction has empowered me to adjust imbalances in posture and movement that have brought about improvements in my level of function and quality of life. Personally, it has resulted in a greater enjoyment of my long-distance hikes and a reduction in discomfort from long hours sitting at the computer. Jeanne has a rare combination of passion, expertise, interest and quality of individualized teaching. Jeanne is more than highly recommended." - S.J., Woodside, CA "Jeanne brings to her work a sense of calm and relaxation that helps you forget old habits and learn new ones" - O.M., San Carlos, CA |
